Leadership Styles:
I think that I have various
types of leadership styles that vary depending on the situation and the
intensity. For the most part though I am a transformational leader. I like to
change traditional ways that leaders have led in the past and I have been
successful. I believe I am a democratic leader for the most part, unless in a
professional position, where I become autocratic. In the NOLS quadrant, I am a
driver as I have an emphasis on action and directing functions. I feel that
decision-making comes easy to me and I am excellent in high pressure
situations.
Examples Of My Leadership
Snowboard Instructor:
I have
been known as a leader in snowboarding in a various different ways. I have been
a snowboard instructor for 3 years at Lakeridge Ski Resort in Uxbridge Ontario.
To be an effective snowboard instructor, you must be able to lead small
lessons, to large groups of people on the hill. There were times where I would
have a group of ten plus beginners who had never snowboarded before, who were
in grade 6 and younger. I would have to maintain order so that no one was
fooling around, putting the safety of themselves or others at risk. Though it
was a challenge at times, I managed to teach everyone something, while
maintaining a fun environment in an organized manner. This was a very fun job
as I loved being in the leadership role and making an impact in people’s lives.
Produce Supervisor:
I became a
produce supervisor very quickly into my time at Whittamore’s Farm, as I
demonstrated strong time management skills and always put the most into my
work. I was lucky enough to be promoted to a Produce supervisor where one other
worker and myself would lead our small team to keep the farm market looking and
functioning the best ways possible. I would lead in an autocratic way, keeping
the team on task and busy, contrary to what high school students usually want
to be working. For this I gained respect and valuable experience leading a
team. I was also lucky enough to take the public on wagon rides in the fun
farm, giving tours and answering questions
